Week 4 of the One Room Challenge choosing the accessories for the Laundry/Mudroom

We made it through week 4 of the challenge (dare I say easily?).  This week we worked on finishing things up. The accent wall is up (I love it), the folding counter just needs to be stained and we did paint touch up.  Next week I'll show the folding counter top we built out of wood but today I'm sharing a quick peek at the accessories I have picked out. If you missed the last few weeks you can check out the beginning here.  A big thanks to Linda at Calling it Home and Media Sponsor House Beautiful.

Narrowing the rug choices down.

Choosing a rug for this space was hard for me.  I buy tons of rugs (I have two giant beasts that live with us) and my usual MO is to chose something neutral with a lot of texture. For this space I had wanted to add a vintage feeling rug as I love the time worn look of them. I couldn't find what I wanted in my local stores so I went to some of my favorite online resources.

a. Pottery Barn b. West Elm c. Joss and Main d. Pottery Barn e. Urban Outfitters f. West Elm g. Overstock.com h. Rejuvenation

So here is where my ride on the struggle bus began.  The colors are NEVER what I think they are! I ordered rug g. from Overstock.com and it was way too PINK.  Next up was rug c. from Joss and Main. I loved it but it was more of a baby blue than I was looking for so strike two.  Rug number three was h. from Rejuvenation and when it arrived I was head over heels in love with it...except It wasn't working. It has glorious texture and colors but in the space with all of the rope on the accent wall it was just too much.  I finally started printing out rug images on paper and carrying them up to Lake with me each weekend.  This really helped me as it took me about a hot minute to realize it was the vintage feel that was off.  The accent wall is such a strong statement that the rug needed a different direction.  So this is what rug number 4 and the final choice is:

West Elm Phoenix Wool Dhurrie Rug-Regal Blue

It surprised me but I really like the colors and it's pulling everything together nicely.

Kirkham Tufted Bench

I am also using this bench from Pottery Barn.

Muran Double Hook

And these hooks also from pottery barn.

Braided Magazine Bag West Elm

And finally I scored 3 of these baskets from West Elm for storage.  Love the texture and they will help with keeping clutter under wraps.

Things are moving along smoothly and I am excited for the reveal.  Ooh, also some reveal news.  It was announced mid week that due to all of the weather issues that have been going on during the challenge, for the first time ever the ORC will be extended by one week.  Good News for all the Designers and Bloggers who have struggled with delivery issues.  Check out week 4 of the featured participants here and the guest participants here.

See you next time.
