Easy DIY plant wall

Hello,

I received some questions on this DIY plant wall that was featured in my post on Styling your plants last week. It was a quick DIY I made with materials that I had on hand when we updated our guest room last year. I am all for using what you have and I thought I’d share the quick DIY today.

I purchased this piece of drag (I believe that is what it’s called, it looks like rusty fencing) from a local antiques market for $2.00 and it sat in the basement for a year. When I planned out the guest space I knew I wanted to have plants cover the majority of this wall but wasn’t sure how. Since the space was being completed on a timeline for the One Room Challenge I didn't have a lot time so when I came across the drag again I was very excited! It was rusty but had great texture and I knew a good coat of spray paint would clean it up.

Next I had to figure out a plant pocket of sorts. I found some felt left over from a project so I tried that. I knew I could line it with plastic to keep any water issues away. The objective was to simply hold the plants. I knew I could take them out to water them throughly.

I then used leather ties to make the pockets and tie them to the metal drag.

I ended up spacing out four pockets that fit 3- 4 inch pots.

I threaded the leather through the top to hang the planter.

I didn’t photograph the furniture pads I added to the corners to prevent the metal from scratching the wall. But I highly recommend.

I added easy care plants that don’t require a lot of fuss. Pothos, Philodendrons and Maranta leuconeura (Prayer Plants) that require med to low light. I like mixing the heights so that some trail and others grow taller.

I loved how it turned out. Looks great in the guest room. I liked it so much I took a second piece and hung in on my covered porch.

It’s great for climbing plants!
