Outdoor Refresh Week three of the One Room challenge

This week has gone by so fast! And for some good news, the May weather is finally cooperating over here. It actually hit 70 degrees. Woot! That, combined with our progress, has us feeling pretty accomplished this week. This week we spent our time working on the porch ceiling.

But first, If you are stopping by for the first time, you can catch up with our weekly updates for the One Room Challenge here.

Week One/Week Two

Cedar Shake Ceiling on Porch

Here is what we started with. The ceiling was not only in need of a paint job but some of the wood was beginning to rot.

Before porch picture

We spent a day making repairs before we started wrapping the porch in cedar. I am not going to lie the recent price increases in lumber (especially cedar) had us thinking twice about this detail. But I really wanted to tie the cedar elements together with what we had added to the deck last week. We originally were going to plank the ceiling itself but we had a lot of cedar shake leftover (and again pricey) so we decided to use the shakes on the ceiling also.

Cedar Porch Ceiling

We are loving the look. And excited to see some progress, Speaking of progress you should see what everyone else is up to this week!
