Third annual Christmas tree blog hop

Welcome to our 3rd annual Christmas Tree Blog hop. Hosted by the lovely Michelle at Our Crafty Mom.

This year we have over 40 trees to share over two days. You will find holiday inspiration for just about every kind of tree you can imagine. It’s time for some Christmas Tree magic! So let’s get started.

Christmas tress have always been my favorite part of Christmas decor. As a child growing up my mom was all about the trendy tree. One year we had a white flocked tree (I know she was way ahead of her time) with pink ornaments and the next year it was an aluminum tree with bright colored balls. As we moved into the late 80’s our tree matched the earth tones of our living room (brown and gold with huge velvet bows). No matter how I begged for a real live tree with popcorn and all the traditional trimmings she wouldn’t hear of it. So the first year I lived on my own, I gathered some friends and we made a trek to the great outdoors to chop down a live Christmas tree. It was -15 degrees and the little ax they loan you got firmly stuck in the trunk! It was a bit of a lopsided little thing but I was hooked. The scent, the shape of that little 4 ft pine and the live popcorn I strung (soooo time consuming) were my childhood dreams come true.

I’ve kept up the tradition of real trees through the years although I confess to having second thoughts at the end of each season looking at those needles as we drag the tree out. What I have also found as I’ve gotten older is just like my mom once did I have come to love a theme tree. Usually I decorate a smaller tree in a theme and a larger tree that is a traditional mish mash of memories.

This year I almost left our small tree naked except for lights. It’s in our master bedroom (which I find so romantic and cozy) and I loved it how it glowed with just the pretty white lights. But I found these little wooden peace signs while I was traveling and I fell in love with them. Peace was also my manta word this year so it seemed fitting.

I turned the little wooden ornaments into a garland using some twine. I also added the handmade clay ornaments I made last year. You can find the easy diy tutorial here.

I used a favorite glass ornament from Pottery Barn as the tree topper.

I added a few other peace themed ornaments I had on hand as well as some natural colored wooden beads and faux white berries. It feels soft, neutral and oh so cozy. I wrapped the bottom in a fluffy white throw.

When I finished the tree I knew I had the perfect final touch. My neon peace sign (also from Pottery Barn) which I bought because I loved it but had yet to find a spot for it. I LOVED how it looked when we hung it up next to the tree.
