Peel and Stick vinyl tile for our basement renovations- not your grandma's vinyl

Today I would like to talk about flooring and, in particular, the floors we put in our recent basement renovation. Woot Woot!!

Can you tell I am pretty excited to share my experience with DuraDecor’s Luxury Vinyl Peel and Stick plank tile??

So let’s start with the why we chose DuraDecor vinyl peel and stick. When we were renovating this space for the One Room Challenge this past Fall (you can see the reveal here), I approached it the same way I do with my E-Design clients. What is the space going to be used for? Are there any challenges?? Hmmm, yes, the floors have on occasion gotten wet! So when I started designing this space, I knew we needed something that was 1. Easy for us to install as a DIY. 2. Quick- We only had six weeks for the entire renovation. 3.Safe for wet areas- we have had a few minor water issues in the past. 4. PRETTY! Because you know…..it’s important to me. :)

Let’s talk about how easy it was to install. We followed this video on the Home Depot’s website (DuraDecor is available exclusively through Home Depot). My husband ended up installing 1/2 of the floor when I was called out of town. I was so nervous it was going to be a huge task for the two of us so I was very excited to return home to find it half completed.

As you can see we installed our floor over the concrete. We made sure it was clean and dry and we laid the boxes out for 3 days to acclimate to the room temperature. When instal day came we mixed the product from various boxes to make insure a random appearance. Tools needed for installation:

We used sharp scissors in addition to the utility knife.

Rolling adheres the product to the floor.

I truly LOVE the results! The floor itself is waterproof the barrier is not but should we ever have another leaky pipe we could simply replace any damaged tiles without too much fuss. The tiles are scratch-resistant which is another consideration we need to take into account because of our 100+ pound Lily.

This is definitely not your Grandma’s Vinyl! I can’t believe how much we’ve been using the basement now that it feels so warm and cozy. It’s been completed for about 8 weeks now, and I truly love how easy it is to maintain. We use a damp mop, and that’s it. We haven’t had many visitors (thanks 2020), but we anticipate it will hold up for years!
