One Room Challenge: Short Term Rental, Reveal
WHEW! It’s reveal week for the One Room Challenge and what a challenge this has been. I am so proud of what we accomplished during these last weeks and just freaking amazed at how well it all came together (seriously about 15 minutes before the photographer showed up). :) So without further fanfare I present our short term rental renovation!
LIVING AREA:
Coastal Living room
This was certainly the biggest One Room Challenge we have ever taken on for a couple of reasons. First—the overall space is small and different areas are connected to each other, so it was hard to decide which space we should feature. The Kitchen? The Dining/Living area?? In the end we decided to go for it and feature all three. The second and biggest reason was the house was a distressed property we bought sight unseen at an auction and was in dire need of some love. This was the before:
I honestly cannot say what I love the most about the space now. I think the one thing that made the biggest difference was the PAINT! The entire first floor is now a gorgeous light filled space. I used Sherwin Williams Snowbound on all of the walls and Morning Fog on all the trim. A HUGE thank you to Sherwin Williams for sponsoring the paint.
ENTRY WAY:
Entry Way Penny tile
I ADORE how the penny tile turned out! The house is located two blocks from Lake Michigan (Michigan’s fresh coast).
This beautiful print from Artfully Walls was the inspiration for my design. I fell in love with the color combination.
Have you ever fallen in love with something and you are totally inspired to design a room around it? This print was it for me.
Since this space will be used as a sort term rental, we made sure we had plenty of seating options. These denim chairs below are from Woven Byrd.
Living Area:

I really wanted to add some texture and character to the space and keep a coastal vibe. This shim wall (easy DIY) was quick and inexpensive. We will eventually add a shelf on the bottom half to store books and games. I also LOVE how the rug from Well Woven grounds the space. I wish you could feel it; it’s so soft when you are barefoot!
Dining space:
Pink was the perfect color choice for dining chairs paired with our grey teak table.

Kitchen:

Participants were encouraged to use and repurpose what we had during this One Room Challenge. Due to the stay at home orders this spring, it was very challenging to find supplies and materials so we took the advice to heart. We had some leftover tile from a previous project and my friends at The Tile Shop supplied enough extra to run the tile up the wall behind the hood vent. Speaking of the hood vent—we made it ourselves!! Stay tuned for a post on the how to next week. The counter bar is poured concrete and the others are butcher block which I love for the ease of install and the look fit the casual coastal vibe I was going for.

I was excited we were able to save the original cast iron sink.
See the little peek of pattern over there in the left hand corner below? Well once we started on the first floor I knew we had to work on the tiny powder room- crazy right?!?!? Why not add more work to our already tight timeline?
Powder Room:
Sure why not!! It was crazy but oh so worth it. Look at that teeny tiny sink.
It’s hard to pick a favorite here, but this wallpaper from Spoonflower just might be it. I mean how cool is this pattern?!?! I love Spoonflower for both their amazing designs and quality.
